When starting, all characters take a crouching position. When the announcer says "get set," all players must hold down B to charge up. When "GO" appears on the screen, players let go of the button to start. However, if someone went too early, it is a foul. While running, the player must swing the Wii remote and nunchuk to accelerate. Teammates wait at every corner of the track. When the character approaches a teammate, the speed will lock and the player will press B to "pass the baton."
